About Our Home

Located in the high dunes of Bald Head Island, The Defense Rests enjoys panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and is nestled in a quiet cul de sac just a short walk to BHI’s South Beach. Our expansive porches provide ample room for your family to enjoy breath-taking sunsets, while the open floor plan is perfect for game nights, family dinners, and gathering with your loved ones.

Our home is just a short walk to the closest beach access and conveniently located in the middle of the island, allowing quick golfcart access (on one of the two golf carts included with your rental) to 16 other unspoiled beaches, preserved maritime forests, marsh hiking trails, and all of other restaurants and facilities BHI has to offer. Additionally, we provide bicycles to enable you to discover the beauty of the island.

Our home includes both a four-seater and six-seater golf cart for you and your family to enjoy with your rental. Each of The Defense Rests’ four bedrooms includes its own ensuite, full bathroom. Both the master suite and the guest bedroom boast private entries to a private, screened-in porch. The master suite and two additional bedrooms are on the first floor, while the crofter bedroom provides a private, kitchenette-equipped suite nestled in the trees of the Maritime forest. The upstairs game room/office has a sleeper sofa and an adjacent full bathroom. The dining room table seats eight, and our spacious and modern kitchen comes equipped with anything and everything you and your guests might need. After a day enjoying BHI’s beautiful beaches, enjoy a game or movie night in the spacious living room surrounded by the picturesque ocean views.

We are members of both the Bald Head Island Golf, Tennis and Swim Club and Shoals Beach and Swim Club. Because we have found that some of our guests would prefer a lower rental rate and don’t use a club, and some guests prefer one club to the other, or want both, we have lowered our weekly rates and no longer include a club with your rental so that we can customize your stay for what you want. However, we can arrange a temporary membership for you at your cost.  The BHI Club includes an award-winning golf course (green fees not included), tennis courts, a wonderful pool complex, a “splash park” for the little ones, a state of the art gym, and formal, informal, and poolside dining. The Shoals Club is located at East Beach in a superb oceanside setting. It offers both the main pool and a smaller child’s pool with beautiful ocean views, as well as complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas. Informal poolside and restaurant dining are available.

It is a place like no other, where you can relax, unwind, and adjust to ‘Turtle Time” living. We are so excited to be the owners of this wonderful home at a place so very special to us, and we hope you will soon be our guests.
